Our Featured Volunteer of the Month is Nancy Oneil!

Nancy started Volunteering with the therapeutic riding program last year. However, this was not her first time at Lancers. In the mid-1970s Nancy rode at Lancers with her mom and two of her brothers. Although Nancy is not riding right now (she has been thinking about starting again) Nancy enjoys the opportunity to use her experience in healthcare with her background of horses. “ It has been wonderful to be around horses again, to experience their strength and majesty, and to see the positive impact they have on the participants of the therapeutic riding program. Everyone in this program, from the participants to the organizers and instructor has been very welcoming and appreciative, it has been a privilege to volunteer.”

Nancy describes growing up at Lancer as some of the best experiences of her life, particularly being a part of the Musical Ride was Magical! “Lancers is a community, both when I rode here as a teenager and currently as a volunteer,  it is one of friendship, support, and true community spirit.” Nancy is thrilled to be able to be a part of the Lancer community again!

When Nancy is not volunteering she is an avid swimmer, and gym participant and enjoys walking her dog in the park daily and spending time with her family.  Nancy loves getting to know all of the Horses of Halifax and could not pick just one as her favorite. Nancy has been an asset to the therapeutic riding program and helps Build Better Lives through Horses daily. We are grateful to have her back in the Lancer community and hope she continues for many years to come!
