RIDE LIST AND SCHEDULE FOR SEPTEMBER 2008 ARE POSTED ON NEWSLETTER PAGE.
Musical Ride is in need of a volunteer who can sew. The jackets are well, let's say they are vintage and require things like buttons and maybe changing a hem or sleeve. If you have a sewing skill and a few minutes, call either the office or Gretchen Phinney at 483-4849.
The summer camps for beginners are full, with the exception of a few spots in the June 30 - July 11 afternoon camp.
The Downtown Horse Show was a great success. A huge Thank you to our membership who were fantastic with donations of time, canteen items, jump building skills, sponsorship, painting, organizing, and a host of other things. The Canteen made a record $1614.00!
The Sommerfeld Family unveiled "Megan's Garden" at the Downtown Horse Show. It is a beautiful, tranquil place to sit and reflect on how lucky we are to have such an amazing place in the middle of downtown Halifax. Our thanks to the Sommerfelds.
Members should check the "forms" section and click on August Programs to see what is planned for the summer of '08!

Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers
The Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers was founded as a non-profit society in 1936, and has brought life and character to central Halifax through its stables and horseback riding arenas on Bell Road. Recently designated as a heritage site, the facilities are an integral part of Halifax's prime tourist area that includes such historic sites as the Public Gardens and Citadel Hill.
Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers is home to 30 horses. Each year about 100 children and adults from all parts of the Halifax Regional Municipality take part in our horseback riding programs under the guidance of certified instructors. These programs teach the fundamentals of riding and allow all the participants to take an active role in the care of the horses and develop a strong sense of responsibility and self-esteem.

In addition, in collaboration with HALTR, a local charitable organization, we provide riding and driving programs for challenged individuals, most of whom are children.
Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers have their own musical ride that has performed for Governor Generals and Royal visitors including The Queen and Princess Anne. In addition, Lancers has also performed with the world famous R.C.M.P. Musical Ride.
Today Haligonians can sometimes see the mounted students parading through the city in their ceremonial dress to attend the Shilling Ceremony in Point Pleasant Park, the Blessing of the Animals at the All Saints Cathedral or performing the musical ride.
Lancer students are highly respected in the field of equitation for their riding accomplishments and many well known riders have been products of the Lancer school. |
Capital Campaign
The Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers building has been standing for over 80 years and renovations and improvements are needed to our stables, our indoor arena and our outdoor riding ring to permit us to continue to serve our many program participants: children and adults, able bodied and challenged.
In order to achieve this, Lancers is soliciting financial support. Donations can be one-time gifts or multi-year pledges. Lancers will also gratefully accept donations of needed goods or services. Lancers also requires volunteers to assist with the Capital Campaign.
