Our featured adult rider of the month is Anna Jessop!

“Lancers has brought riding and horse care back into my life after taking a few years out of the sport and I am so grateful to have an opportunity to be back in the saddle in a way that works with my life.” Anna has been drawn to her horses her whole life, she started riding when she was 11 and spent her summers volunteering at the barn to get any chance to be around horses. Anna has always felt a sense of freedom while riding “There is very little room for outside distractions, it is a great mental health break.”Anna has felt the benefits of riding in her life outside of the barn “Character-building, resilience, empathy, and leadership are all skills that I attribute to riding.”

After a long wait on the waitlist, Anna started the adult membership in November 2023. Over the last couple of months, Anna has enjoyed being able to ride a lot of different horses and learn something from each of them! “ I love that Lancer’s mission is to make riding accessible within our community. Horseback riding inherently is a sport with a number of barriers, whether it be cost, transportation, or knowledge and Lancers help overcome these barriers to make the sport more accessible and welcoming to the community. Horseback riding is an exceptional opportunity for both children and adults to learn teamwork, responsibility, and leadership and would ideally be available to anyone interested.” Over the years Anna has been involved at different barns including some therapeutic riding programs, she has experienced the impact horses can have on people and sees how Lancers has “harnessed” the power of horses.

Although Anna has only been riding at Lancers for a short period we are happy to have her in our community. She is a lovely rider who works well with many different horses. We are so glad that Anna found her way to Lancers and has been able to bring horses back into her life.
