Our Featured Junior Rider of the Month is Giorgia Steiro

We are particularly enjoying writing our weekly features right now while the barn is closed because it lets us stay connected with all our amazing members and volunteers! Our featured Junior Rider for May is Giorgia Steiro!

Giorgia has been riding for almost five years, starting when she was seven years old at a barn in Italy. She remembers driving past Lancers frequently as a young child before moving to Italy but was too young to start riding with us. She hoped that one day she would get to be a Lancer. Luckily, when Giorgia’s family moved back to Halifax three years ago, she was able to join our Junior Membership program with the riding experience she gained in Italy!

Giorgia is now in Ride 6 and in addition to her regular twice-weekly lessons participates in many Lancer activities. She enjoys being a groom for friends at off-property shows, being a part of our musical ride Honor Guard, participating in Pony Club quizzes, and doing rider levels. She loves spending time at the barn and can’t wait until she can do so again! Giorgia is always very helpful and is often the first to volunteer for any extra tasks that need to get done. Her enthusiasm from Lancers is so great to see and we appreciate how much she shows her Lancer spirit!

Giorgia has lots of great memories from Lancers but one moment from our Salmon River camp stands out for her. She tells us, “I have gone to Salmon River two years in a row and it is always the highlight of my summer! I love every single minute of it but one of my favourite memories is one of the trail rides I went on last summer led by Chloe and Breagh. I love every minute I spend at the barn with the horses and my friends but I also really enjoyed coming to the barn early on Saturday mornings for my Ride when I was in Ride 7.”

Lancers has brought lots of great knowledge and lessons into Giorgia’s life. She is excited about all the skills she has learned so far and the life long friendships she has built. She says, “Lancers has really shown me a lot of things like what real hard work is and good sportsmanship. I have met so many friends that are like my family and a ton of amazing people and Lancers has also made me a better person. I am so thankful to ride at Lancers and I am also very thankful that I get to do one of my favourite things with the most amazing people.”

In the future, Giorgia hopes to keep building her riding skills and horsemanship so she can compete in off-property shows and maybe even join the Musical Ride. Looking even further forward, she would like to become an instructor someday and make sure she keeps riding throughout her life.

While the barn is closed, Giorgia is spending lots of time with her family, concentrating on her studies with online school, and waiting for the day when we can all go back to Lancers. She added, “I really miss the horses and everyone at Lancers. I was really looking forward to riding outside and spending time at the barn during the summer but now I am really looking forward to going back when all of this is over and I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy so we can all go back”.
