The Lucy Cuthbertson Memorial Fund
The Lucy Cuthberston Memorial Fund provides financial support for junior members in need. The Cuthbertson Family and the Lancers have signed an Agreement that the annual income from the Fund will be used each year to help fund selected children’s riding fees at Lancers. Lancers will teach the fundamentals of riding and recipients are expected to take an active role in the care of horses, which will help to develop a strong sense of responsibility and self-respect.
In February 2005, Lucy Faith Cuthbertson, at the age of 24, died of meningitis in London, England. In memory of their beloved daughter and sister, Brian, Lindsay, and Richard have established, in association with the Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers, the Lucy Cuthbertson Memorial Fund. As a young girl, Lucy joined her older brother as a rider with the Lancers. Her love of horses and riding meant that she literally grew up at Lancers, becoming a qualified instructor for young riders. As well as riding Lucy played basketball for St. Patrick’s High School and for the University of King’s College. While completing her Masters in Economics at McGill University, she was a stalwart member of the Triathlon Club.
