The Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers was founded as a non-profit society in 1936, and has brought life and character to central Halifax through its stables and horseback riding arenas on Bell Road. Recently designated as a heritage site, the facilities are an integral part of Halifax's prime tourist area that includes such historic sites as the Public Gardens and Citadel Hill.

Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers is home to 30 horses. Each year about 100 children and adults from all parts of the Halifax Regional Municipality take part in our horseback riding programs under the guidance of certified instructors. These programs teach the fundamentals of riding and allow all the participants to take an active role in the care of the horses and develop a strong sense of responsibility and self-esteem.

In addition, in collaboration with HALTR, a local charitable organization, we provide riding and driving programs for challenged individuals, most of whom are children.

Halifax Junior Bengal Lancers have their own musical ride that has performed for Governor Generals and Royal visitors including The Queen and Princess Anne. In addition, Lancers has also performed with the world famous R.C.M.P. Musical Ride.

Today Haligonians can sometimes see the mounted students parading through the city in their ceremonial dress to attend the Shilling Ceremony in Point Pleasant Park, the Blessing of the Animals at the All Saints Cathedral or performing the musical ride.

Lancer students are highly respected in the field of equitation for their riding accomplishments and many well known riders have been products of the
Lancer school.
