Horse selection in the riding programs
All riders check the “ride list” each day to find out which horse they will be riding that day. The ride list is made up each day by the instructor and horses are assigned for a reason. Not everyone can ride their favorite horse each day.
All members have a responsibilty for horse care and well-being
We have a full time stable staff that looks after the daily basic needs of the horses. The horses are mucked out once a day with ample clean bedding added to their stalls. By the time our members arrive after school and work, the horses have been eating lots of hay for hours. The long and short of it is that by the supper hour the stalls may be dirty again. All riders are encouraged to pick out piles of manure and wet areas of bedding when they ride. Clean bedding may then be moved into the stall so the horse has a clean place to lie down for the night if he so chooses.
Evening hay and water is the responsibility of the riders and members. During the week, the stable monitors are responsible to oversee the haying and watering of the horses, but are not responsible to do it themselves. These horses belong to all of the members and they work hard for them - making our horses comfortable and happy is the responsibility of all the members.
Members from rides 1, 2 and 3 are expected to perform the duties of the Stablehands on Sundays and holidays. This is a part of the educational program at Lancers as it enhances the riders’ general knowledge of the daily requirements of a horse.
There are currently 25 horses housed at "The Stables".

Pictures of our newest horse. His name is Chevy. He is 16hh bay, and four years old. Guess what breed???? The best breed, half TB and half Clydesdale. He looks like he should be Jacob's little brother. He will be starting school this September when he has a little more training.
Brandon has been sold and is very happy with his new owner and his western tack.
This week's trivia: Do you know what horse this is? Some of you guesses right after a few tries, it is Shooter at 8 months of age!

Cash aka Las Vegas. Cash is our oldest horse at age 34? He has been at Lancers since he was 23 years old and has taught countless people to ride. In 2006 the received Cantra's Outstanding Therapy Horse Award. |

Louie aka Snap Shot or Jimmy. Louie is 14 years old and has lived at Lancers since he was three. Louie can be a bit devious but his alter ego, Jimmy is a solid kind of guy. |

Freddy is a steady Freddy. Freddy is 17 years old and been at Lancers since he was 4 years old. |

Norman aka Intripid. Norman is 21 years old and is a brother to Phyllis. Norman came to Lancers when he was 2 and a half years old. Norman was named after the cow in City Slickers because of his big, kind, brown eyes. He was a bit of a chicken as a young horse and very spooky. We decided that there is power in a name so we called him Intrepid which means fearless and he did indeed become fearless. Norman is a polite boy and one of the easiest rides in the barn. |

ALICE AKA Wonderland. Alice is a clydesdale cross mare who is a little on the plump side. Alice loves to jump and does Children's Hunters and 3'3" jumpers. Alice is happiest when she is eating! |

BUCKY aka Batman. Bucky is 13 years old. Although he is black was named Bucky because when he was born he was buckskin in color! When he lost his baby hair, a black coat emerged. Bucky did a lot of jumping prior to coming to live with the Lancers and although he is ver forward (and a little spooky) he is a good hearted guy. |
